A reason that iTunes polls for a password each launch
Authored by: tempel on Dec 22, '11 09:01:53AM

I just checked that Cookies folder on my Lion system (upgraded from SL and further back).

I found 4 files in there, two of which are called:

com.apple.appstore.plist
com.apple.appstore.plist - corrupt

When I tried to look into them I found something odd:
The one called "corrupt" appeared to contain valid entries. At least they all looked similar and indicated no irragularity.
But when I opened the other - supposedly good - one, I got an error. Neither Xcode nor Property List Editor (from SL) nor BBEdit could open this as a plist file. Turns out that this file has a "cook" header which is not a plist format at all but rather resembles the "Cookies.binarycookies" file's contents.

This is all rather mysterious, especially since the "com.apple.appstore.plist" file's modification date is Dec 20, just 2 days back. So it gets apparently still used, but is denoting a wrong file format.

Anyone having more insight on this irregularity?
