A reason that iTunes polls for a password each launch

It can happen if the appropriate cookies aren't present due to other reasons, i.e: running a "Reset Safari" command.

The Safari Cookies SIMBL plugin can help here. Mark apple.com as a favourite and set it to delete non-favorites on exit. For it to work properly though, you shouldn't remove cookies other ways (from preferences or the Reset Safari menu item).

You'll want to also mark favourites on the other tabs: databases and local storage (many Safari extensions and some web apps use these) and Flash cookies settings (precious game saves!).

This came up on the forums a little while ago: http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?t=138973
