10.7: Restart Mission Control

In the case of the Dock, what is the difference in the end result?

I can see the case for using the osascript method with, say, Microsoft Word or Photoshop, or some other traditional application like that.

Is there some case for shutting down the Dock in a more "clean" fashion? The killall method has always seemed to work without any bad side effects. The Dock always re-launches immediately, re-reads its preferences, and all of the other apps tied to the Dock process do the same.

Is there a potential of corrupting its preferences or something? Or is it just that you prefer to take the "cleaner" route when you can? I just ask because I have always done the killall method with the Dock, and never really worried about any bad side effects.
