Please look at Nathanator and Mapmaker's comments. There is absolutely NO need to edit the plist or any other file. To repeat, here are the steps that put your computer at the top of the list.

I tried out this method; what I saw is that I could move drives from Devices to Favorites (as mentioned in the hint) but it would not allow movement of the Computer device icon, which seems weird.

Ah - I see the point. You're absolutely right. I was testing this on a machine with only partition. It's more obvious on a machine with two or more partitions, where you might want the computer icon in favorites, but not the drive icons.

Tried it before and just again. Your drag via CMD does not work for me. I get the same "cannot move circle with line through it whether I hold the CMD key or not. |
