10.7: Window resizing options
I find it hard to contain my bile that you can no longer "zoom-to-fit" windows in the Finder, and double-clicking the right edge of a list view header no longer also-sizes it to fit the contents. It may sound silly, but I used these literally every day when dealing with new folders of files from clients. Edited on Aug 05, '11 09:19:42AM by diamondsw
10.7: Window resizing options
I'm with you on this one. What boggles me the most is that it's the combination of non-visible scroll bars plus the non-functioning zoom-to-fit button. I wouldn't be bothered as much by the inability to see if there's more content outside the window bounds, if I could just hit the button to fit everything, but... Gaaahhh! Manual dragging of every bloody window edge is driving me nuts.
10.7: Window resizing options
Um, when did the zoom-to-fit button ever work?
10.7: Window resizing options
Zoom-to-fit, in the Finder, has worked perfectly through all versions of Snow Leopard, and I'm pretty sure it was working through most of Leopard as well. There was one major release in there somewhere (maybe 10.5.0 or 10.4.0?) that broke it -- similar to how it's now broken again -- but they fixed it in a point release. Hoping to god they fix it again in Lion...

Well, that worked also since Mac OS 9 (perhaps 8)!
10.7: Window resizing options
After almost 5 months I'm sure you know this by know, but there's an option in a System Pref Pane (General I think) to keep the scroll bars visible.
10.7: Window resizing options
Uh, the only zoom in the Finder is zoom to fit. What are you talking about?
10.7: Window resizing options
Open a bunch of Finder windows. Click the zoom-to-fit buttons. Et voilà, it doesn't work. :) Edited on Aug 06, '11 08:20:34PM by Unsoluble
10.7: Window resizing options
Sorry, but I don’t get that. It works fine for me with all Finder windows. The green + button resizes the window to the space needed to display all content. Clicking it again goes back to the way the window was before. Am I missing something?
10.7: Window resizing options
If you're always getting a perfectly sized-to-fit window when clicking the green button, then you're extremely lucky. I can't tell what the algorithm behind it is, but I can assure you that 90% of my windows do not fit all their content after hitting the green -- I almost always have to pull down the bottom edge to fit the rest. Some do indeed fit! But it's very rare over here.

I am not using the green button that much so it’s totally possible that I’ve missed out on that problem. :-) But thanks for taking the time to clarify!
10.7: Window resizing options
I have always used the green button to exactly resize Finder windows, which are always displayed by List, sorted by Kind, use 10pt text and the larger of the two icons offered. Also, I always display the Toolbar and Status Bar, sometime display the Path Bar but never use the Sidebar.

Like I said earlier, this same thing (almost exactly) happened a few OS X versions ago, and then they fixed it a couple point releases later -- I'm really hoping they do the same this time around. :) |
