No more FAX on the new 15" Mac Book Pro

Fax protocols are a tricky thing. I guess a charitable way of putting it is that the decreasing user base hasn't allowed them to keep up with newer developments. My Internet connection is via WiFi and my phone line is VoIP only. Because I live in a place where some administrations still use faxes, I tried to get something working and spent hours at it with the techs at my IP's, but we eventually had to give up, admitting to each other that those protocols just can't talk to each other.

So for sending, which happens about once a year, I go out and find someone that has a fax. For receiving, there are those services (like K7.net) that wil provide you with a number and turn your fax into a tiff file that then gets forwarded to your mail account in attachment. I believe some online paying services will also turn your files into a fax and send it for you.

STF? That's brave of you, but maybe they got better in the recent past. I gave up on that one back in OS9 (or was it OS8?), such a lousy unstable app...
