I feel your pain. I'm 54 (and counting, hopefully!)

You're probably using Apple's default mouse motion acceleration table, which I have never been able to understand or accept. You can set up your own, but your choices are a bit limited. I would try SteerMouse (trial download is very simple, and you can do a complete uninstall in case you want to try again after demo has expired). Play with the settings in the Cursor segment tab, and be patient. Don't be afraid to try extremes. I'm using a Kensington Ci65m and my settings are usually 0.025 or 0.0375 for the top slider (toward the left) and 80 for the bottom slider (toward the right). Kensington makes its own software for this (MouseWorks), but it hasn't been updated in years and isn't compatible with some Macs (my mid-2009 MacBook Pro 17"). And it only works with Kensington mice. You might also get a Logitech mouse and use their software. I'm too old to get fancy with a trackpad, I think, but I'll probably keep trying.
