I've been using myPhoneDesktop lately to send text from my Mac to my iPhone. The $5 iPhone app works with a desktop client to send and receive various types of messages. If you send a URL from the Mac client, you can have it open in Mobile Safari, for instance.

For SMS, I type the message & select a recipient in the Mac client, send it to the iPhone app via the myPhoneDesktop server (which means you need Internet access for both Mac & iPhone) where I still have to hit "Send" for the formatted message to get out. It's not seamless, nor can I read received SMS messages on my Mac client. But it still beats typing on the iPhone screen for more than just a few words.
