10.6: Install Battery Update 1.4 under Snow Leopard

This is only halfway useful. The first paragraph doesn't make it very clear who the update applies to. I have a late 2006 MacBook with an early 2008 battery which qualifies. That was a surprise as the hint makes it sound as if it's only for new batteries.
However I'm on 10.6.6 so I can't apply the update directly. I've never used Pacifist before and I'm less than eager to try it out with this. Any chance of some step-by-step instructions from someone?

The Apple support article is very good at explaining who needs this update. I didn't think it applied to me, but decided to do the easy steps and poof! I need this upgrade.

I do agree that some steps for doing the upgrade with the Pacifist tool would be a great addition. Can anyone help?

Download and mount "BatteryUpdate1.4.dmg"

To Run Pacifist:

1. download Pacifist [http://www.charlessoft.com/] and launch it
2. click "Open Package..."
3. ignore the registration screen - wait for 15 seconds, click "Not Yet"
4. navigate to /Volumes/Battery Update 1.4/BatteryUpdate1.4.pkg
5. select "Contents of BatteryUpdate1.4.pkg" and then click the "Install" button in the upper left corner of the Pacifist window
6. enter your administrator password

Now run Disk Utility, repair permissions, SHUT DOWN (not Reboot [not sure if this is necessary, but couldn't hurt]), and then boot the computer.

You don't get any feedback that the update takes place. You must go to System Profiler and check the "Power" section to see if the pack lot code is changed to 0003.

Pacifist just allows you to bypass the 10.5.5+ system check, otherwise the file "/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/BatteryUpdater.bundle" will not be installed due to lack of Snow Leopard support in the installer.

Thanks for the Pacifist instructions. I followed them and got the BatteryUpdater.bundle installed in the right place, but no matter how many times I rebooted, the pack lot code never changed. Something else seemed to be preventing the battery flash part from working.

In the end, I created a small 20GB partition on my boot disk, installed the 10.4.8 that my MacBook came with, used software update to get it to 10.4.11 and installed the battery update from there. Success. I now have pack lot code 0003.
