Eliminate surprises and repeats from iTunes Genius Mix playlists

The reason for this step is to guarantee the list won't have any duplicate tracks.

Here's why: If you select all the tracks from the iTunes DJ playlist and drag them to the new empty playlist, iTunes will not let you know if duplicates are being added. But if you have a playlist that's populated with only one single track, iTunes will check to see if duplicates are being added. And if they are, it will throw up a dialog asking whether you want to skip adding them. Interestingly, it will also skip adding duplicate tracks that are currently being added.

So adding the single track (it doesn't have to be the top track) is really a trick to fool iTunes into preventing a playlist from having duplicate tracks.

Sure, it's easy enough to eliminate duplicates from a playlist: Go to File>Display Duplicates and manually remove the duplicate tracks. But this method of adding one track and then adding all tracks eliminates the need for that step.

I hope that makes sense.
