Sleep battery drain cure too..
Authored by: Chas on May 02, '01 07:03:21AM

Yes, this is the cure for the infamous battery drain while in sleep mode. People install CPU-intensive screen savers like the Maya screen saver and wonder why their battery gets drained. Unfortunately, I don't think Basic Black is part of the standard MacOS X install, it's a 3rd party screensaver and probably available at the standard archives like stepwise.org. It appears that many of the wake from sleep kernel panics are due to bad code in the "Basic" (not Basic Black) screensaver, I've only encountered a panic when using Basic, it ended with my switch to Basic Black.
BTW, I noticed a change in wake behavior with the 10.0.2 update. Now when I open my Powerbook lid, I get a black screen, I can move the cursor around for 4 or 5 seconds before the black screen goes away. This is completely unacceptable, after being spoiled by the instant wake of the initial release.

I have found that for the system to sleep using the Pref panel , you must not have mail open.
