iOS (iPads/iPhones/iPod touches/Apple TVs) recognize only H.264 at certain encoding rates. I use the free program called Handbrake. Look at the presets for iPhone, etc.

I understand how to make them iPad compatible. My question was regarding the "filenames are in a recognised format" statement. And what that special naming format might be.
