Thankfully, Chrome also supports the same (sane!) Cmd-Return shortcut that Camino and Safari use, so you don't have to forget that in Mac browsers, Cmd-whatever always means "open in new" ;-)

Unfortunately it isn't consistent with "option" meaning download. Option-click downloads the file in both Chrome and Safari, but only in Safari does option-return download the current URL.
