Reset existing printers to use with Airport
Authored by: DCJ001 on Feb 08, '11 12:43:20PM

I've got an Epson CX7400 printer/scanner (all in one). I can get my printer to work when it's connected to my Airport Express. But, when it's connected to the Airport Express, the scanner is not recognized.

This tip got my attention, and I tried it. But the scanner remains unrecognized.

If anyone has a solution, I would appreciate it.

You cannot scan from a device connected to an Airport Express or Extreme. The data transmission is one-way. (There may be some small transmission back to the computer, like ACK of some sort, but nothing that will support scanning.)

That's not the problem. It's simply that the host controller in the Airport device doesn't know how to enumerate a scanner.

The problem is that the Airport Express only knows how to talk to USB printers (and disk drives). It doesn't know to talk to scanners. So the scanner part of the all-in-one simply doesn't exist to it.
This is actually a pretty common problem, as most Ethernet print servers don't know how to handle non-printer devices.

Just wanted to mention that the Airport Express does not support disk drives, only the Extreme does.
