iPad Charging

This is only true with older Macs - newer Macs can push more power (more than the USB spec mandates, actually) out through their USB port. If I plug my daughter's iPad into my 2009 MacBook Air, for example, even during use it shows that it is charging.

The basic issue is that most powered USB ports - even on a computer - will only provide 500mA of current. The iPad needs roughly twice that if you want to both use it and charge it at the same time.
