iPad Charging
Unfortunately, I do not remember exactly where I saw it, but I do recall this being reported on soon after the iPad was released. What actually happens is that the iPad will not charge when the display is turned on. So, every time you unlock the screen for any reason, or are able to see the screen, you will always see "Not Charging" (as long as you're not connected to a high enough power USB port). As long as the display is off, the iPad will actually charge, albeit not as quickly as with a high power USB or with the wall charger.
iPad Charging
Here’s an interesting WTF
iPad Charging
The reason is that Windows doesn't understand it when the iPad sends a message to the computer saying, "Hey, I can use more than the standard amount of voltage in my USB port." Mac OS X does. It's nothing surprising when you consider that normally the voltage that high wouldn't be sent to a USB port for fear of frying the peripheral attached. |
