Find My iPhone does not require a MobileMe subscription

Thanks for posting this hint. I somehow missed this, too. I happened to hear Leo talking about it in passing on TWIT, so I looked into it. I was disappointed to find out it couldn't be enabled using an iPhone 3GS. Then, I found out that it would work on an older iOS device after it was enabled on a current generation device, as the last commenter explained.

So, I used a friend's iPad, entered my Apple ID, enabled the service, did the same on my iPhone, then deleted my MobileMe account from my friend's iPad. It's nice to know people with shiny, new Apple stuff! :)

Lifehacker posted the steps for doing this.
