10.6: Limitations of TextWrangler or BBEdit from the Mac App Store
I love Apple, but unfortunately I don't they really care too much about their power user community. Most of the features they've implement seem to be aimed toward the more computer illiterate crowd, and Apple themselves doesn't offer many tools to make it easy for a power user. A good example is the severely limited control they offer over Time Machine - without doing Terminal magic or getting a third party utility, you have to stick to backing up every hour and you can't really tell what it's doing each time it backs up. (Most of the power tools available come from third parties, and it's often hard to find exactly what you want because of OS restrictions.) I would think Apple should care more about us though since I would think that a lot of their users are power users - after all, why would someone who doesn't care much about computers pay $1500 for a Mac when they can get the same specs on a PC for $500? |
