Drag and drop straight to Mail works for me.

And the published workaround is excessively complicated anyway. If you're copying the image, just paste it into the Mail message without detouring through Preview.

I think the point was that going directly to Mail did not work for him.

I got that point. But it works for me and more than likely works for most people. So the two questions I have are, "why doesn't it work for him?" and "why does a problem with the submitter's system make this a hint for everyone?"

I got the placeholder image and not the inserted graphic when I tried it, just as the submitter did.

Mail 4.3, Chrome 7.0.517.44.

I have the same versions and drag and drop works fine for me.

Both ways, drag to dock icon opens a new mail with the image and drag to open message places the image in the message.
