I am tired of people saying that things have to be in Java because of this platform independence. Really, the majority of the code for a program should be in C (or C++), which will compile anywhere. You then only have to have separate interfaces for each platform, which is not that much work (especially since "each platform" is at most 3: Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X).

Also, there are other multi-platform GUI toolkits like QT that, while not as nice as Cocoa, are much more reliable and faster than Java (because they are actually compiled).

Yeah, I could see QT as a viable alternative in some situations. Or Tcl/Tk. Maybe even Ajax.

I don't think the world needs any more bad C programmers turned loose, though. Time to invest in education.
