Easy quitting of multitasking apps in iOS 4
Authored by: hamarkus on Aug 31, '10 10:33:05AM

Is there a list of which apps actually make use of some the background APIs? It seems any app playing audio automatically falls into that list (or maybe I just missed the fact that there was an update those apps I have tried it out with).

The key problem here is that certain apps which as their main task play audio do not have a UI for stopping the audio. Until iOS 4, pressing the home button was their UI for this. With iOS 4 they should get an UI, for example stopping Airfoil Speakers should have a button 'Stop playing audio', stopping audio right now is five step procedure:
1) click home button to exit app
2) double-click home button to bring up 'backgrounded' apps
3) hold app icon
4) touch red icon
5) touch anywhere to exit 'backgrounded app menu'

Double tap the home button to bring up the switcher, then swipe right to bring up the audio controls. Whatever app is currently using the background audio API can controlled from there.
