Easily boot from USB 2.0 drives on PowerPC Macs
Authored by: rgawander on Aug 12, '10 11:16:37AM

I have a Powermac G4 digtial audio, and I can boot of a 8 gig flash drive !I Did the same thing, Superdupered my start up disk, then imaged it back onto an USB flash drive and it worked.Just like others I was thought Macs can't boot off USB,which is technically true, you can't select an USB in startup disk. But the hardware only sees the system, not where it is.I already knew it can boot from an USB if you use classic 9.2 .But you can't install OS X onto a USB from your install disk.So you have to clone it.I was originally looking for this trick for a firewire drive, that would not boot, and it works the same way, hold down option when starting up,and select drive. And it works not only through the built in USB,but also through a PCI-USB card add on.
