Use the original iPhone dock with New iPhone 4
Authored by: SlamShutt on Jul 27, '10 03:23:00PM

I sold my Original iPhone when I bought the iPhone 4. I had three docks that I sold with it. Just yesterday, I found a fourth in a box full of office crap (don't ask me why I had so many :P ) Anyway, I was going to just sell it on eBay and try to make a few bucks off of it. While searching the WWW for the part number, I came across this thread. HOLY CRAP! It really does work! I had already purchased the iPhone 4 dock to keep on my desk at work. Now I can keep this original iPhone dock at home.

When testing it for the first time, like "xcgr" and "BrentT", the audio out did not work with my iPhone 4 docked. Since other people had experienced that same issue, I just figured that portion of the dock was not compatible. However, when I plugged my iPhone 4 dock back in and tried to listen to music on my iPhone 4, there was no sound coming out!! For a split second, I freaked, thinking the original iPhone dock had messed up something with my iPhone 4. But then I checked the volume controls on my computer and found that the "Line In" had been muted. It wasn't muted before I connected the original iPhone dock because I had been listening to my iPhone 4 through the computer earlier that day. So after I unchecked the "Mute" box, the "LINE OUT" on the original iPhone dock was working after all!!!

So, in a nut shell, I believe plugging in the original iPhone dock and docking the iPhone 4 into it caused the "Line In" to get muted... don't ask me how or why. But once I un-muted it, the original iPhone dock played the tunes on my iPhone 4 perfectly!!!
