Turn Private Browsing off in Safari 5

Disagree with the idea of making it a persistent toggle. That's just a waste of space.

Nobody needs to toggle private browsing on/off frequently. It's meant as a reminder that you're in private browsing mode (there are a variety of reasons why you wouldn't want to leave that on all the time), and nothing else.

Apple made the right choice.

And this is the one thing I find most characteristic and annoying about Apple users and Apple itself - the underlying assumption that someone else knows better than you and can dictate for everyone. Apple is the corporate embodiment of the nanny state, forever telling everyone what is best for them. I don't say it's wrong or bad; clearly, many people prefer this model. I do not. What I do take issue with is the pervasive Stockholm syndrome-like attitude of users who will rush to defend whatever freedom of choice Apple has limited or eliminated. It reminds me too of the child of an abusive parent, who would never dare criticize the parent all the while he or she is being abused.
