Pasteboards

Dragged items (also clipboards/pasteboards, and actually a dragged item is nothing else than a special pasteboard) can contain different types of data. In this case the picture URL and the pictury data.

What's new for me is that the Finder saves all different data types within the clipping file and hands them back to the application when dragged back. It's up to the receiver to decide which data type it uses.

BTW what i really miss is the ability to copy open clippings to the clipboard via Apple-C. So far i remember this was possible with Mac OS 9.

Actually, the Finder has always asked for all the drag flavors it could get. It can be very annoying as well when your application is asked to export data in every format it knows (particularly if that export can take a while).

I agree, I keep waiting for Apple to bring back copying the clipping to the clipboard. It was a handy feature that I used a lot.
