New logic board for older G5 iMacs with bad capacitors
Authored by: macsince84 on Mar 26, '10 07:11:29AM

Hey Tony, sorry you didn't have the same type of luck. As it turns out, when I brought my mac to the mac store, they did confirm with out and questions that it was the logic board, due to about 5 blown caps on the capacitors and 3 that were leaking. when they started talking prices, I told them what apple care had told me about the extended replacement program. he questioned it and told me that it had ended about a year ago. he checked the ticket that apple care had opened and it was indeed stated that the repair would be covered if the problem was confirmed. He spoke to his manager about it and she didn't even hesitate, stating if thats what they said then we will repair it at no cost.
It may not hurt to fight it a little more. Someone else on here made a good point and you should tell apple this.
"Why is it your fault that your Mac lasted longer than some others?"
"There was no recall, so you had no way of knowing that there was an issue" How could you have participated in the program if there was no issues with you mac at that time"
Its all worth a try. there are ppl out there that will repair the logic board for a fee, might me cheaper than what mac charges.
Best of Luck
