Try editing/hacking before you install.
Here is what to do.
1. Remove the installed iMovie app; try using AppZapper to do it.
2. Make changes to the package. Open/Extract using Pacifist.
3. Copy iMovie file within MacOS folder.
4. Make changes to copy of iMovie file using something like HexEdit.
5. Replace the original iMovie file within the MacOS folder with the edited/hacked copy.
6. If need, then change the edit/hacked copy "iMovie~" to just "iMovie".
7. Close folder and run
8. Wait and wait for takes a while to open, but you should not see the alert and the app will open.

Doesn't work for me at all (help)

This trick only works for the earlier versions of iMovie '09.

If you update or have a more recent version, then this hexing trick will not work.

I learned this after making the error of updating iMovie during a routine Software Update.
I went to open my hacked iMovie and ran into the same problem.
I went re-hacking assuming something bizarre happened to lose my hack.
I found the same lines at the address and realized this was not the same file.
Then it dawned on my that the update crippled my hack.

You need an earlier version of iMovie '09 to apply this hexing code trick.
