Enhance readability of sites with very small text on the iPhone
Authored by: Mike Perry on Mar 12, '10 08:33:47AM

Thanks for the tip. It works quite well. I added Inverse to my options and put it at the top of the Bookmark folder that has my iPod touch links to make it easier to reach. Someone also might want to see if the creator would be interested in making a version specifically for iPhone/touches. With that tiny screen, it'd be great if Extra Large didn't enlarge some text too much.

We might want to also shake the Apple tree about adding this ability to Safari for the iPhone. Since a double-tap enlarges a column to fit the screen, the new triple-tap could activate Readability. It'd be easier than navigating to the toolbar each time.

Bug causing sites to render with very small text on the iPhone

Simpler for Apple would be to fix the longstanding WebKit bug that renders a lot of clean and otherwise handheld friendly web pages with unreadably small text:

(Disclaimer: One of the affected pages was my Stanford PalmPilot User Group home page, <http://pobox.com/~spug>; ironically, the WebOS browser is also affected by the same bug. We did implement the workaround for the iPhone User Group, <http://pobox.com/~sipug>. )
