Way better than a Kindle

We'll be getting one at our house as my wife really wanted the Kindle DX but I suggested she wait to see what tablet Apple introduced. At a comparable to the Kindle DX, I think she'll get way more use out of the iPad, seeing as how she LOVES her iPhone.

It's interesting to see what people are comparing it to: netbooks, iPhone/iPod Touch, laptops, Android devices.... I really see this as a new market not comparable to netbooks, et al. Whether that market has demand is up for debate, but if I think of the iPad as sheet of paper that I can do anything I want with, as well as easily hand to the person next to me, I think that's something I'd use a lot. Not in a day-job or mobile work setting, but just in everyday casual computer use--browsing, quick email check, recipe look up, jotting notes, checking tasks, managing grocery lists, sharing online stories with my wife. What I think it's missing most is a build in stand because I'd want to prop it up everywhere to refer to whatever I'm checking out on the screen at that time.

Way better than a Kindle

I have used a kindle and they seem to be kinder to the eyes than an LCD screen the reason being, they use a proprietary floating text or something technology and I am impressed. Don't get me wrong I am apple advocate but in terms of eye strain I would take the kindle anytime. Having said that, I wonder how the iPad compares to a regular laptop screen because if it is similar, which I think it is,it will just be as eye-straining.
