New logic board for older G5 iMacs with bad capacitors
Authored by: ChicagoOutfit on Jan 25, '10 04:36:15PM

I just wanted to chime in that my First Generation 17-inch iMac G5 gave out a month or so ago (as in, not turning "on" whatsoever)... and that I opened it up to find that it exhibited the issues surrounding "bulging capacitors" (complete with a yellowish substance creeping out of the tops of some of them).

With that knowledge, I called U.S. iPod and Mac technical support at 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) and told them about my iMac G5's issue. I wasn't irate or anything; I just explained (as mentioned above in the original hint) that I felt like I'd been penalized for my machine lasting longer than the ones that had their problem surface during the extended warranty period.

It was actually a very pleasant conversation and they set me up as an "exception" to the extended warranty expiring and covered parts and labor.

So... just sharing that Apple is still taking care of these issues.
