DVD AutoPlay (also CD autoplay)
This has turned into an interesting exercise ... First I updated OmniOutliner. Big mistake since the "upgraded" version won't open a plist file now (all grayed out in selection dialog box). No worries since I've used TextWrangler for this sort of thing before. So I added the suggested text and, no joy. I hunted around and found com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist in the user Library/Preferences directory and altered the entry
to read false/. Also no joy. Immediately beneath it is an entry
which I suspect was set to false/ by the application preference panel setting I changed day or two ago. Methinks this is a good old fashioned bug...
DVD AutoPlay (also CD autoplay)
I set both of these keys to false as well as added AutoplayDVD false to com.apple.finder.pref, and DVDplayer still opens. It does not play, but I DO NOT want it to automatically open when I mount a DVD.
DVD AutoPlay (also CD autoplay)
The problem is that DVD Player is responding to preferences on what to do once the application is already running. To adjust settings on what to do when a DVD (or CD) is inserted, go to System Preferences -> CDs & DVDs (in the Hardware section) -> and set the drop-downs to "Ignore".
