Readers, if you're trying this tip, and you don't see the colors in the SVG-Colors.html document, this might be why:

Some TextEdit users have set their preferences to "ignore rich text commands in HTML files." That's how I set my own TextEdit. I see the 'raw text' with HTML tags rather than the formatted text.

To take advantage of this hint, though, you'll need to uncheck that box. Any file currently open in TextEdit must be re-opened, if you want to view it as rich text. Likewise, when you're done with styles, you can check that preference box again... but any open files must be re-opened if you want to view them without rich text again.
