10.5: Reconnect Time Machine backup after drive swap

Yes, it will.

The main reason why I wanted to adopt my previous backups was that I wanted to keep as much as possible of the time line accessible for as long as possible.

The big chunk of another full backup will lead to a much earlier retirement of the oldest backups.

But if that is not seen as a big problem, it should be no problem to just let it run through.

The operations described above are indeed kind of challenging, so staying on the safe route is not a bad choice in itself.
