An IR command for exiting Front Row via EyeTV remote
Authored by: kamath on Dec 17, '09 12:41:11AM

Any keypress that FrontRow doesn't know about will exit it (I set my KeySpan to generate a "tab" key for my exit. Works fine.

Harmony remotes can also be programmed to generate keypresses after some programmable delay. Thus I have my activity "watch computer" set to turn on the TV and set up the correct input, turn on the AV receiver and set to the right input, and then tell the PBG4 I have hooked up to the TV to go into front-row. Because there's a certain delay after the TV goes into the right input with the Mac setting up the new monitor (I have the TV hooked up to the DVI port), I have to add a 2 sec delay before going into front row. I do something similar when shutting down the activity.

I created a simple AppleScript to put the computer to sleep, and mapped that to a key as well. Thus I can put the PB to sleep when I am done.

some remotes might be programmable to keystrokes (ie. keyspan), but the HarmonyOne cannot as far as i'm aware - only IR signals are accepted. I suppose you could use a keyspan to program the HarmonyOne, but why bother if you already have a keyspan remote.

I was trying to stay away from custom applescripts if i could. My macmini runs in TV mode 24/7 in fullscreen as the default upon booting so i never shut it down (and if it restarts it just resumes back into TV mode) and i can always watch tv wherever i am via my iPhone streamed from my macmini :)
