2.0 G5 DP Fired Logic Board
Authored by: MichaelP on Nov 26, '09 10:40:49PM

You may find this interesting:
My G5 DP bit the dust. Began with the fans running in overdrive where it would not respond to key commands. Always had to hard restart. Then the computer froze two days ago. On restart, the USB ports were toast.

Called Apple, rep tells me to restart and see what happens. Duh!!! I only tried that 30 times. He tells me to go to the genius bar.

Took it to the Genius Bar, the logic board is fried - $1652 to fix. I asked the tech about my findings online of a huge amount of logic board failures. His response with a massive grin on his face, "Welllllll I have seen a few!"

I called Apple, they of course deny a hardware defect and say "hey it's an electronic" yet offered me a whopping $150 credit towards a new machine. WTF? If there is no defect and I have no warranty, why then offer me anything. Did Apple feel bad about the death of my computer? I commented that my trusty G4 300 from 1999 with 7 over writen OS' still runs strong, yet "The worlds fastest super computer" bites the dust in 5 years. Somethings fishy!

I guess economic scale doesn't matter to Mr.Jobs – I rely on Apple to make money, Apple relies on me to buy new products to boost their stock prices. I am now very skeptical about the quality of Apples new line.
