Adobe Type Manager also added support for MM fonts system-wide.

For those who don't know, Multiple Master fonts are sets of similar typefaces packaged as a set of "master metrics" plus variants in a compact descriptor language. When a program requests a font represented in Multiple Master format the type engine uses the MM data to produce a set of adjusted glyphs on the fly.

At least that's how I remember it....

multiple masters on Mac OS X 10.2 work only if an "instance" of the font (at a certain weight and width, for example) has already been created.. there is no support for on-the-fly creation of an instance
