Use Windows XP from Virtual PC with Boot Camp
Authored by: nortonius on Oct 09, '09 09:29:50PM

Hello, I'm new here, so please forgive any apparent dimness.

I think I've tried everything here about using Bart's method of creating a bootable CD to extract Windows XP Pro from Virtual PC 7, but all I get when trying to use the CD with Boot Camp Assistant is a message saying no bootable device was found, and I've just about given up with it now.

I've done the trick with the .sp2 files, made sure I've got lower case 'i' for 'i386', all that stuff, nada. The best remaining tip seems to be the one (sorry, I forget for the moment from whom) about calling up Microsoft and simply asking for a replacement WXP Pro SP2 disk: it seems cheap, a sensible way forward for me and Microsoft, and about the only way I'm going to get it! Only, the linked Microsoft page is for North America, any idea where to go for this in the UK? It might seem a lazy question, but I've looked and only found support access that I had to pay for - that seems wrong, since all I want to do is buy a disk. And, what can I expect to be asked if I make that call? I don't want to be told off if they don't like that I'm trying to squeeze WXP out of Virtual PC 7, which I gather they might! I understand the idea that my licence for WXP is tied to Virtual PC 7, but hey, I paid for it, and I think it's unreasonable to insist on this tie under the circumstances.

On the other hand, I'm willing to try again if someone has any further suggestions! Thanks for reading.
