10.6: Avoid relaunching System Preferences in 32-bit mode

As the article clearly says
"Select System Preferences in the Finder, select File » Get Info (Command-I), and tick the 'Open in 32-bit mode' checkbox."

Meaning you're selecting file from the finder's menu bar, not system prefs menu bar (or simply press cmd-I with System Prefs selected)
