10.6: Permanently disable spelling correction in TextEdit
Authored by: Dr. T on Sep 25, '09 10:30:39AM

TextEdit has Preferences check boxes called "Check spelling as you type," "Check grammar with spelling," and "Check spelling automatically." If you uncheck them all, you'll never get nagged. If you uncheck the last one, ip will never be turned to pi while you type.

If you want to use autocorrection but need to tweak the list of corrections, then control-click (right-click) on the word that was automatically changed (such as "ip"). Choose the first item in the pop-up menu (Change Back to "ip"). Control-click again. Then choose either "Ignore Spelling" or "Learn Spelling." Your word will be added to the 'no correction list' or to the 'correctly spelled word' list.
