Create complex Smart Playlists in iTunes 9
This is an awesome feature. My approach to making complex smart playlists in the past was to make intermediate smart playlists and have my usable smart playlists make reference to those.
Nested Smart Playlists
Right. The ability to specify another Smart Playlist as one of the criteria has existed for years, and has effectively allowed arbitrarily complex logic through the use of multiple referenced playlists. In fact, when Smart Playlists first debuted in iTunes, I sent feedback to Apple suggesting that they add "Playlist" as a criterion for just this reason. I argued that this would be the most elegant solution, keeping the interface uncluttered while allowing advanced users like myself to get the complex logic they want. I was thrilled when they actually did it (no idea if my suggestion had anything to do with getting the feature). |
