Solve a Mac Mini invalid resolution issue after install
Authored by: digitalcowboy on Sep 04, '09 11:38:18AM

I had the same problem but I haven't replaced my old 32" CRT yet. My 2009 mini is connected through Mini Display Port to VGA and then a VGA to S-video adapter. (I know. I've been too cheap to upgrade my TV just yet and it works just fine.)

I assumed my weirdo display set up was what caused my problem and it took me a couple of reboots of the mini and a couple of reboots of the analog VGA adapter to get it to even recognize a display was connected so that I had the resolution options I needed.

i doubt that you will get a signal. afaik there is no analog support for tvs over the mini-dp/vga adapter. tell me more please.

A number of folks with '09 Mac minis have reported that this works; mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter, and then VGA to S-video cable.

BTW, the mDP is digital unless you connect the mDP to VGA adapter and the electronics in the adapter keys the Mac to switch to an analog output.
