New logic board for older G5 iMacs with bad capacitors
Authored by: vilmosz on Sep 01, '09 09:06:34PM

I have had this issue on our 2005 iMac. Finally took it in last May 2008 to the Genius Bar, but they only replaced the power source, claiming the logic board didn't need to be replaced. The machine continued to steadily degrade and then became unbootable last week. Geniuses said the issue was the hard drive, which I paid them to replace (parts only) but insisted they also replace the logic board as I know the machine will once again spiral downward. They say they have run all tests and the logic board passes the tests as not being defective, but I am skeptical. I will go back down there tomorrow, but I will refuse delivery when I have good reason to suspect this issue will crop up again. I will take a copy of this post with me and let you all know how it goes.
