No need to horse around with .DS_Store files. Just end the URI with a dot (ie. ~/Desktop/.) and you're good.

This (. instead of .DS_Store method) doesn't work for me with Safari 4.0.2. Instead, it works like the hint this hint referenced (ie. opening the folder that contains the folder you're trying to go to, instead of the folder you want itself).
