For the locking part, you can also launch the screensaver from here:

/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app

You can put that in the dock, or make it a hot corner.

I'm using Quicksilver to acitvate the Screen Saver app. I've also enabled to "require password to wake up from sleep" and so everything works easy and fine.
