That's the whole point, the playlist doesn't need to be cleared -- it is cleared by iTunes DJ. You can set it to keep n played songs, but you can also set it to immediately clear played songs. It's a very cool hint.

OK, I guess I see the point of you don't use DJ for anything else. Since I like DJ targeting other lists (more useful to me daily), I prefer not to have to go into DJ prefs to back and forth my targets. My method adds what I want temporarily, and clears itself, returning to original DJ prefs.

That said, and as I said earlier, the utility of this hint is clear if your listening habits are those described by the OP.
