10.5: Fix slow full-screen Flash movies in 10.5.7
Flash is wrongly implemented on Mac. It don't work well with Quartz. For me it's one of biggest drawback on mac especially on PowerPC. I had choppy youtube videos on my G4 1.33 there are my tips to get it playable. Note that Intel mac are powerful enough and you may not notice as much difference as on PowerPC.
- get last flash - I have 10.0.22.87 version and it geve me big speed improvements specially in full screen - disable beamsync - I get huge boost with beamsync disabled my guess is that flash must wait for another screen sync what make it choppy specially in acceleration mode. It's good try for those suffering symptoms as in article. This shouldn't happened with modern program. Theoretically there can by drawback. Programs that frequently update their UI (more times than screen refresh) may take more cpu power. I noticed more responsible apps with beamsync disabled. - on choppy videos wait them to load completely - It must be some bug, speed in my case is doubled when video are loaded completely - watch videos in fullscreen - I now that in article this was a problem but I encourage you to try first two tips and check again with accel enabled you may be surprised - try firefox or opera they better handle flash plugin - this was in hint some time ago. With safari 4 difference is almost not noticeable. In fullscreen speed is this same in all browsers. - best of all are greasemonkey/greasekit script that allow you to play mp4, and mp4 HD version of youtube videos, but no full screen :( http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/38074 |
