Force iPhone 3.0 to correct portrait/landscape orientation
Authored by: zpjet on Jun 19, '09 03:59:13PM

Tonight I was walking from Vauxhall to the Eye and as I was reading a long mail, I remembered this hint. The tapping didn't work for me, although I wasn't in Messages app. However, I noticed one behaviour of the Mail app and confirmed it several times during that quite long walk:

When I was walking, turning the iPhone didn't have any effect. But when I stopped and change the orientation, the app reacted with its ca half second delay. So I guess the algorithm of the orientation needs a few still moments to decide the orientation.

This have a side effect that if you don't want the iPhone to change its orientation, just keep wiggling it a bit and it stays where it was before you started wiggling.

I guess a good test of this side effect would be to take the iPhone to a roller-caster, you should be able reading your mails just fine!
