This only applies to the 3G iPhone, not the original, which doesn't have GPS.

The original does still try to embed your location into your photos, it's just that it's way less accurate than the GPS variety.

It's certainly less accurate than GPS, but it's not way less accurate with my experience with the 1st gen iPhone. I assume it's because it also uses cell towers to figure out where it is, and not just the far less accurate Wi-Fi as the iPod Touch does.
