i use my laptop to watch films so let's say i like having more than just three options.

btw i know about the panoramic view and i use it with films which are quite close to screen aspect ratio; otherwise i find it quite disturbing and rather choose to zoom in slightly and cut some parts of film.

I guess I'm having trouble understanding what you mean by "too wide to fit" (fit how?) and exactly what problem you are having, and how "Zoom to Fit" and "Panoramic" do not solve the issue.

Your hint is VERY unclear. You talk about a movie that is "too wide to fit" and then suggest zooming in even more? That seems like it would make the situation worse.

Can you give a link to a sample video that has whatever this issue that your hint purports to solve? Can you provide a "before" and "after" screenshot showing how QuickTime zooms the video (which you don't like), versus how your hint zooms the video?

let's just say i wanted to replicate functionality of DVD Player's zoom.

when i'm going to watch very wide movie (aspect ratio more than 2:1) on my 15 inch screen, i don't like too much of black bars (and sometimes very small subtitles), i don't like too much of the movie being cut, and i don't like distortions caused by Cmd-5.

so i just do this compromise. not too much black, not too much movie cut, bigger subtitles, no distortion.

and it's just a few clicks; considering i'm going to then watch 90 minutes film the way i want it, it's small inconvenience.

the macosxhints are for people who try to find other options. i like quit menu item in my finder, i like my hidden icons in dock being semi-transparent, i like to watch films slightly zoomed-in.

Ok, I think I see what you are trying to do. You want to "over zoom" (but not as much as "Fit to screen") the movie so it's bigger on your screen while minimizing the black bars, correct?

It also seems that to accomplish this you would need to drag the movie a little bit past the left side of the screen, in order to stretch it out far enough to the right to get the correct "Present at current size" that you want. It was not clear from your hint that you would have to drag the movie past the left side of the screen a bit... unless I am still totally missing your point :)
