Why not just go View -- Enter Full Screen (CMD-F) ? That's a lot simpler.

what about actually reading the hint before posting? it says it even in the title. the idea is to zoom in the film, while in full screen there are only two options: zoom out to fit the screen, or zoom in to fill the screen. this hint is about a compromise between those two options.

I did read the hint, several times, and it doesn't make sense to me. Are you trying to view the widescreen format video without black bars? Or something else? I guess I don't clearly understand your problem, thus your solution makes no sense.

I guess what I'm saying is, how does going Full Screen and then selecting either "Fill Screen" (CMD-4) or "Panoramic" (CMD-5) not fit your needs?

well, some people... anyway. just try that zoom slider in DVD Player to see what i mean.

I guess I'm having trouble understanding what you mean by "too wide to fit" (fit how?) and exactly what problem you are having, and how "Zoom to Fit" and "Panoramic" do not solve the issue.

let's just say i wanted to replicate functionality of DVD Player's zoom.

Ok, I think I see what you are trying to do. You want to "over zoom" (but not as much as "Fit to screen") the movie so it's bigger on your screen while minimizing the black bars, correct?

Also, what do you mean "too wide to fit" ? Quicktime automatically adjusts its full screen zoom to fit your screen so there should never be an issue here. Even if you tried to watch a 1080p movie on a Macbook, it would shrink the movie's resolution down to match that of the Macbook (with black bars of course, unless you choose "Panoramic" or "Fit to Screen" zoom mode).

I'm with you on the confusion, but I have (rarely) got a few videos that were ripped strangely and ended up with black borders on both the sides *and* the top/bottom -- in order to get those to frame nicely fullscreen, some window-resizing could help. Or the scrollwheel method I mentioned below.

I was looking for the "View>Present Movie" option equivalent, as far as my Leopard speaks French, but I finally changed the language settings to see that it's a PRO option... and I don't have a PRO licence of QTPlayer :o( |
